City of Akutan

The City of Akutan, incorporated in 1979 under State of Alaska statutes, is a Second-Class city with a strong mayor form of government. Seven city council members are elected at-large by voters. Elections are held on the first Tuesday of October each year. 

Planning, Platting and Land Use Regulation powers and duties are delegated by the Aleutians East borough to the City of Akutan. 

The City of Akutan provides numerous services to the population and regional maritime fleet of the Aleutian region of Alaska within the boundaries of our service area. The city has a 1.5% sales tax.
